A new documentary about Bolo Yeung, who is known as the Chinese Hercules, is in the works. Chinese Hercules – The Bolo Yeung Story will feature many of the great action stars and martial artists who have worked with Bolo in numerous films. These include Bob Wall [Enter the Dragon (1973)], Richard Norton [Ironheart (1992)], Bill Shaw [Shootfighter 1 & 2], Bobbie Phillips [TC 200 (1993)], Matthias Hues [TC 200 (1993)], Paulo Tocha [Bloodsport (1988)] and Bernard Mariano [Bloodsport (1988)]. There are others who may become involved including Mo Chow and Ian Chow [Tiger Claws 1 and 2].
Behind the making of the documentary are martial artist and filmmaker Aziz Cem, originally from Istanbul, who has received acclaim for his numerous shorts and Pavel Nyziak who was Bolo’s seminar agent in 2010.
Martial artist and body builder, Bolo Yeung, came to the attention of Sir Run Run Shaw`s ‘Shaw Brothers’ organisation and he got several film roles playing burly, muscular villains, usually foreigners. Of course the bigger he got physically the bigger the roles he was given and the more monstrous his on-screen persona became. While at Shaw Brothers, Bolo also continued to develop his martial arts skills. In 1970 he won the title of “Mr. Hong Kong” and was soon called the Chinese Hercules. He left Shaw Brothers in 1971 and was invited by Bruce Lee to play “Bolo” in Enter the Dragon (1973). Besides Bruce Lee he also worked with “The Muscles from Brussels” – Jean-Claude Van Damme in Bloodsport (1988) and Double Impact (1991). To many people, Bolo Yeung was the ‘real’ star of Bloodsport (1988) and Double Impact (1991) as well as and Tiger Claws (1991).
Bolo Yeung starred in hundreds of kung-fu films through the 70’s and 80’s in which he developed his trademark ‘not looking’ style and was regularly ‘killed’ by the likes of Bruce Lee (Huang Kin Lung). His big break came when he co-starred as Chong Li in Bloodsport (1988) with “The Muscles from Brussels” – Jean-Claude Van Damme and also in Double Impact (1991). To many people, Bolo Yeung was the ‘real’ star of Bloodsport (1988) and Double Impact (1991) as well as and Tiger Claws (1991).
